Gorkha is a scenic hill- town with great historical significance. King Prithvi Narayan Shah, who unified the Kingdom of Nepal during eighteenth century, was born in the township of Gorkha.
A 25 kilometer road off the main highway connecting Pokhara and Kathmandu brings you to an ancient Gorkha – the untouched and captivating town of Nepal! Some 300 years ago, Nepal was divided into 50 tiny states, and Gorkha was one of them. King Prithivi Narayan Shah, the founder of `Shah Dynasty’ which runs Nepal today, unified Nepal into one kingdom. His Gorkha palace resides on top of a hill at an altitude of 3281 feet (about 1000 meter) The King would watch-over his people as far as his eyes could see from the tallest palace in the very center of Nepal! Gorkha is also the home of Gurkhas – the legendary brave warriors who fought with knives against guns.
It offers panoramic view of, Himalayan range including spectacular view of Manaslu and snow-fed mountains, and panoramic views of the valleys. There is a beautiful old palace known as Gorkha Durbar. There are two attractive temples of Gorakhnath and Kali inside the palace precinct. Only Hindus are allowed inside the temple of Gorakhanath.
Gorkha, located midway between Kathmandu and Pokhara Gorkha can be reached in about six hours from Kathmandu and in about four hours from Pokhara. either city by taxi or public bus A side trip to Manakamana on the way to Gorkha is very enjoyable and interesting.

Manakamana Temple
The Shrine of Manakamana renovated many times over the centuries has four story pagoda style roofs with entrance from the South-West. The pujari performs daily prayers and ritual in the temple behind closed doors by offering eggs, oranges, rice, red powder and strips of cloth to the deities. On completion of the pooja of the shrine by the priest, the turn of the public begins.
Manakamana temple lies 12 Km south of historic town Gorkha and located on a prominent ridge (1302 MT. above sea level) overlooking the river valleys of Trisuli (south) and Marsyangdi (west). The unique location of the place is dramatized during winter when the ridge appears as an island above the sea of morning mist. People believe Manakamana Devi fulfills the wishes of her devotees, thus called the wish fulfilling deity. Innumerable devotees have touched the soil of this holy place and it continues till this day to offer solace and peace to all those who choose to lay their wearied heads on the loving lap of the wish fulfilling mother.
Spectacular views include deep valleys, terraced fields and the Manaslu-Himalchuli and Annapurna ranges. In the past, the only access to the region was by arduous climb of over five hours but one can now visit the shrine in comfort by Manakamana cable car to reach this temple we can experience cable car, which is first introduce in Nepal. The reward on reaching the shrine is spiritually satisfying.

Day 03 | Early in the morning to watch the sunrise over the Himalaya. Hovering over the highest peak of the world (weather permitting) in the comfort aircraft will be a great moment on your travelling life. During the one hour flight time you can see all the spectacular glaciers, snow-capped peaks and gorges glide below as you fly towards your destination to circle around Ammadablam bringing you eye to eye with the highest point of the world-Mount Everest. Afternoon, you will fly/drive to Pokhara offering some beautiful scenery of mountains & Rivers. Arrive in Pokhara, you will have a couple of hours to yourself, to row in a boat on the lake, or to take a stroll along its shores. You will spend the night in Pokhara. |
